For more than one year, Russia has occupied parts of Ukraine. For more than one year, neighbouring Poland has shown immense solidarity. The invasion caused Europe's biggest refugee crisis since World War II. Around 10 million Ukrainians, a quarter of the population, had to flee the country.
In Warsaw, people are trying to give Ukrainians a new home, whether temporary or not. Over the past year, the Polish capital had to cope with an unprecedented influx. How does the city handle this sudden increase of inhabitants?
Students of the second Master in Urban and Spatial Planning at Ghent University will travel to Warsaw in March 2023 to investigate what lessons they can learn from the refugee reception in Poland and Warsaw.
During the research trip, the students will send emails to correspondents, formulating reflections, thoughts and questions. The responses of the correspondents will provide an expert point-of-view. The event "To Warsaw and back" will be a follow-up of this correspondence. In the presence of the students and the correspondents, the audience will get an insight in the mail correspondence. By doing so, the perspective of the audience are added to the conversation.
Organised by Stadsform and the University of Ghent.
